Safeguarding Children and the Care Quality Commission Review

South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust is committed to ensuring that it has appropriate arrangements in place for safeguarding children.

In particular the Trust:

  • Meets statutory requirements in relation to criminal record bureau checks
  • Has robust policies and procedures in place for safeguarding children
  • Has a process in place for following up children who miss out patient appointments
  • Has a system for identifying children for whom there are safeguarding concerns
  • Has recently, in September 2009, reviewed training arrangements
  • Ensures that staff receive safeguarding training as appropriate to their role
  • Has a series of named professionals responsible for safeguarding issues
  • Has a board level lead for safeguarding children
  • Has reviewed safeguarding across the organisation in the last year
  • Has a safeguarding children audit programme in place
